Hydration, Supplements & Between-Session Support for Hard Training Blocks
Hard training breaks you down on purpose. Nordic progressions, jump volume, and high-frequency lower-body work create a recovery debt that sleep and protein alone do not always clear fast enough.
This article is the between-session layer — hydration, targeted supplements, and low-friction rituals that sit on top of your actual training program. Not instead of it.

The Hierarchy (Read This First)
Before you buy a single bottle, get honest about what tier you are neglecting:
1. Sleep — 7–9 hours, consistent wake time, dark room
2. Protein & calories — enough to recover from the work you are doing
3. Daily micronutrient coverage — one consistent ritual when training volume is high (see IM8 section below)
4. Training structure — progressive overload, not random destruction
5. Heat & cold — sauna, cold plunge, or portable infrared (see our recovery stack article)
6. Between-session support — targeted hydration, supplements, and wind-down below
If tiers 1–3 are broken, no hydrogen water will save you. Fix the foundation first.
Daily Foundation: IM8 Health (NSF Certified for Sport)
Hamstring blocks — nordic eccentrics, jump landings, high-frequency lower-body work — demand consistent nutrition. I am a brand ambassador for IM8 Health. Their all-in-one daily drink is what I use as the micronutrient base before I add anything from Therasage below.
Why IM8 fits hamstring programs: NSF Certified for Sport (third-party tested for banned substances), 90 ingredients in Essentials Pro, and a single morning ritual instead of stacking sixteen separate bottles.
Essentials Pro — My Daily Driver
This is the pick for The Nordic Hamstring Standard and Explosive Power — one drink on training days when volume is climbing and you need baseline coverage without guessing.
The Beckham Stack — Full System for Long Blocks
When you are running a full 10–12 week hamstring phase and want Essentials Pro plus Longevity compounds in one subscription — nutrition today, longevity support layered in.
Longevity — Optional Add-On
Add when sleep and training are dialed but you want a dedicated healthy-aging layer through a long posterior-chain block. Not required to start.
7-Day Travel Box — Try Before You Subscribe
Low-commitment entry: one week of single-serve sticks to test the daily drink during week one of a program.
Code GTA00762 applies on all IM8 partner links below — 10% off at checkout. Also on Nordic and Explosive Power program pages under Training nutrition.
Why Between-Session Support Exists
Athletic training creates three specific stress buckets:
- Metabolic — glycogen depletion, hydration loss, elevated oxidative stress from high output
- Mechanical — tendon, hamstring, and foot/ankle load from eccentrics and plyometrics
- Neurological — CNS fatigue from heavy compounds, sprints, and max-effort jumps
Between-session support does not replace recovery modalities. It fills gaps on training days and rest days when you need convenient, repeatable habits — not another 45-minute protocol.
Hydration: Beyond "Drink More Water"
Most athletes under-hydrate relative to their output, then over-correct with sugary sports drinks that add nothing useful.
What I Look For
- Baseline hydration — clear urine by mid-morning, stable body weight across the week
- Training-day top-up — electrolytes when you sweat hard; plain water when you do not
- Optional upgrade — dissolved hydrogen or elevated oxygen content when you want a low-friction daily habit
The research on hydrogen-rich water is still evolving. Early data suggests potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in exercise contexts, but this is not a medical claim and it is not a substitute for sleep. I treat it as a convenience layer — like a better water bottle, not a performance drug.
TheraH2Go+ — Hydrogen Water Bottle
I use this on training days when I am running between sessions and want hydrogen-infused water without mixing powders. The inhalation option is there if you want it; I keep it simple and drink.
When it fits: High-frequency training weeks, travel, or when you will not hit your hydration targets without a dedicated bottle in your bag.
When to skip: You are not sleeping or eating enough. Fix that first.
INHALE Superoxygenated Water
This is the low-cost entry — a four-pack of superoxygenated water you can grab for training days. Seven times the oxygen concentration of regular water per the manufacturer. I treat it as a training-day top-up, not a daily requirement.
Practical use: Keep a can in your gym bag for sessions where you feel flat before you have earned a stimulant. Pair with real food after.
Supplements: Keep the Stack Small
Athletes love buying seventeen bottles. That is how you end up with a $200/month cabinet and zero idea what works.
My rule: three supplements max during a hard block, each with a clear job.
Job 1 — Baseline Omega-3 Support
Omega-3 fatty acids are among the most evidence-backed supplements for general health and exercise recovery support. Krill oil adds astaxanthin and phospholipid-bound EPA/DHA, which some people tolerate better than fish oil (fewer burps).
Dose logic: Take with a meal containing fat. Consistency beats megadosing.
Who needs it: Almost everyone not eating fatty fish 3+ times per week.
Job 2 — Joint Stress During High Eccentric Volume
Nordic curls, RDLs, and jump landings load the posterior chain and knees. When volume climbs, I add a high-curcumin turmeric with black pepper for absorption — not because it is magic, but because curcumin has reasonable data for inflammatory response support when training stress is high.
When to run it: Weeks 4–8 of a nordic or jump progression when soreness trends up despite good sleep.
When to stop: Deload week, or when you are not training hard enough to justify it.
Job 3 — Training-Day vs Recovery-Day Patches
TheraVibe patches are a low-friction option when you want targeted support without another pill.
Training days: Performance patch when you have a heavy lower-body session and want a clean pre-training ritual. I use it instead of reaching for another energy drink.
Rest days / between sessions: Recovery patch on off days when you are still beat up from the previous block. Pairs with walking, mobility, and heat — not with sitting on the couch for six hours.
Patches are not essential. They are convenience. If the budget is tight, prioritize omega-3 and sleep tea below.
Sleep & Wind-Down: The Highest-ROI Ritual
You cannot out-supplement bad sleep. But when training volume is high and your nervous system will not downshift, a wind-down ritual matters.
Fusionary Deep Sleep Tea
Ashwagandha, chamomile, and Ayurvedic herbs in a simple evening tea. I brew it 45–60 minutes before bed on nights after heavy nordics or plyometrics — when my legs are fried but my brain is still running.
The ritual: Same time every night. No phone in bed. Tea, shower, bed. Boring works.
TheraSole — Daily Foot Support
High jump and sprint volume loads the feet and ankles. These insoles are programmed with frequency/reflexology alignment per the manufacturer — I wear them on days with high foot mileage (sprints, court work, long training sessions).
Not a replacement for proper footwear or tibialis work. A daily-wear layer when volume is up.
How I Stack This in a Real Week
Every morning: IM8 Essentials Pro (or Beckham Stack on peak blocks)
Monday (heavy nordics): INHALE or TheraH2Go+ during session · Performance patch pre-training · Krill with dinner · Deep sleep tea at night
Tuesday (upper / mobility): Baseline hydration · Krill with meal · Recovery patch if still sore
Wednesday (jump day): Performance patch · Turmeric Gold if knees/hamstrings are loud · TheraSole in training shoes
Thursday (rest): Recovery patch · Walk + heat from gear stack · Deep sleep tea
Friday–Sunday: Scale back supplements on deload; keep hydration and sleep rituals
This is not prescription. It is a template. Adjust based on your program phase.
What I Do Not Recommend
- Replacing protein with supplements
- Adding five new products in week one (you will not know what worked)
- Hydrogen water instead of sleep
- Patches instead of deload weeks when you are overreached
The Gear vs Blog Split

Daily nutrition (IM8), hydration, supplements, and wind-down rituals live here — because they need context before you click buy.
Bottom Line
Between-session support is the last 5–10% — not the first 90%. Nail sleep, food, and structured training. Add heat and cold if you have access. Then, if you are running serious nordic or jump volume, a small hydration and supplement stack can make the hard weeks more sustainable.
